Say It Ain't So...

It is just about time for a new school year! I know all of my teacher friends are asking, "Where did the summer go?" I hope you were able to do all of those things on your summer "wish list". For my inaugural post on my "teacher blog" I wanted to share a few verses that God gave me over the summer. The Lord has really been impressing on my heart this summer that teaching is a ministry not just a paying career. As a Christian school teacher, you would think this is a given. And to some extent it is. But, I know God is having me take this to the next level and move beyond lip service. Even if you are not a Christian school teacher, if you are a Christian, I believe God expects the same high calling from you. I am posting these verses on my desk as a daily reminder of God's calling to the students He has placed in my classroom this year. May you do the same!

1 Kings 3:9 (New International Version)
9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

servant-that's us! You know, as teachers, we certainly feel like servants some times!
govern your people-can you say "classroom management"?
distinguish between right and wrong- is referee part of our job description?

1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 (New International Version)
As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, 7but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. 8We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.

Let's be honest, as the weeks go on, and Christmas vacation gets closer, it becomes harder and harder to be gentle and delight in our students. I am challenged to remember how dear these children are throughout the ENTIRE school year-even in May!!

I hope these verses will be an encouragement as we begin this adventure into the 2010-2011 school year.

On another note-my "teacher blog" will be featuring this year's classroom theme-"The Great Outdoors/Camping" as well as links to helpful websites and much much more!

Happy Teaching!!
